Award amount: $5,000

The Jon Kaplan Fund Awards will offer support and encouragement to theatre artists of merit and need. There is no “best” associated with these Awards, and the adjudicating committees will be focussed on selecting the most appropriate recipients based on these criteria.

Submission Guidelines:

Who are you?

  • You are an individual Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident, between 20 and 30 years old.
  • You write plays and/or books for musicals.
  • You have had work produced by a professional company, or work that has been selected to be part of a curated theatre festival (such as, but not limited to, Toronto’s SummerWorks, or Vancouver’s PuSH), or have had more than two works presented at a non-curated theatre festival.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents between the ages of 20 and 30 (as of January 1, 2023) who write plays and/or books for musicals;
  • The successful candidate will have had one or two works produced by a professional company, or work that has been selected to be part of a curated theatre festival (such as, but not limited to, Toronto’s SummerWorks, or Vancouver’s PuSH), or have had more than two works presented at a non-curated theatre festival.

Important Dates:

The Jon Kaplan Legacy Fund Awards will be open to receive submissions and nominations February 8, 2023. The Fund will accept submissions and nominations until March 31, 2023 in order to give us adequate time to process what we’ve received.

The fifth annual Jon Kaplan Legacy Fund Awards will be presented at a reception on May 17, 2023.
